Caught Between

Night-Train1

The train echoes through the trees

a mournful whistle

fading in the night

What is it this stirring in my heart?

This stirring that echoes its dissonant chord

whispering inside my soul

The echo that sounds all wrong

and yet feels so strong and right

carried

with

deep

longing

slipping long and far

into the lonely night.

What is this tugging at my soul?

This pull of the rails that teases just beyond my view

The beckoning sadness

caught between Yesterday’s fading black

and Morning’s icy blue

This tugging that tries to

carry me off

with

Night’s Surrender

and Wind-tossed hope

dashing toward

Morning’s light

sunriseikewinski

What is this Truth that carves

its Hope into the depths of me

and wraps its sinewy strength

into everything scraped raw

and tender

hollowing out

room

for promises to come alive again

yet

limps

so slowly behind

this painful nudge

of

the

ticking

clock…

The train echoes through the trees

a mournful whistle

fading in the night

and I am caught between the here and now

and The Morning Star’s ever after

  2. Lovely words. I especially like this part:
What is this Truth that carves
its Hope into the depths of me
    and wraps its sinewy strength
    into everything scraped raw
    and tender
    hollowing out
    room
for promises to come alive again
